Evaluation of the concept of holism in nursing care

PURPOSE: The purpose of this paper was to clarify the concept of holism in nursing discipline.

METHOD: Based on criteria described by Morse et al. (1996a, 1996b), the four parameters for evaluating the concept maturity level were used.

FINDINGS: The concept of holism is well developed and clarified in nursing.

CONCLUSIONS: The clarification and refinement of holism should be continued to be more useful, applicable and suitable for subsequent nursing research for more advancement of the concept.

IMPLICATIONS IN PRACTICE: This study will add to nursing more clarification and advancement of the concept of holism, which extend the nursing science in using holism concept in wider application of various contexts.
